Erma I. Sandy, age 94, of Hamden, passed away Tuesday morning, March 14, 2017, at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston, Ohio. She was born July 18, 1922 in McArthur, Ohio, daughter of the late Fred Downard and Faye Townsend Downard. Erma, a 1942 graduate of Hamden High School, was a former employee of Cuddy Farms in McArthur, and she retired in 1994 from Pillsbury in Wellston. In her earlier years, she worked at North American Knitting Mill in Mansfield. Erma was a loving and good mother who was hardworking and always helping her family, as well as others. She attended the Wellston First Church of the Nazarene until her declining health permitted her from going. Erma is survived by her 2 children, Robert Raymond "Rick" Wiseman (Shirley) of Mansfield and Rita Huff of Wellston; 4 grandchildren, Tammy Shaull (Jeff) of Mansfield, Ross Wiseman (Amie) of Georgia, Erica Mercer (Paul) of Wellston and Shawn Huff (Jill) of Newark, along with 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ray, Ernest, Robert and Roy Downard; sisters, Dorothy Carr and Ethel Sowers; and her son-in-law, Nick Huff. Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 P.M. with Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. Burial will be in the Hamden Cemetery.
