Ernest L. Barney, age 88, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born October 17, 1928 in Allensville, Ohio to the late Elza Jacob Barney and Flossie Peck Barney. Ernie retired from Lake Hope State Park, where he was employed as a maintenance man for 15 years. He was a member of the Redman organization and he enjoyed rabbit hunting and mushroom hunting. Ernie is survived by his wife, Sadie Parry Barney; children, Harley Barney (Cindy) of Frankfort, Tom Barney of McArthur, Paul Barney of Columbus, Chris Remy (Bub) of Ray, Mary Milsted (David) of Logan and Carol Coleman (Marshell) of McArthur; step-son, Alan Stapleton (Mary) of McArthur; sister, Mary Brown of McArthur; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by son, Jake Barney; step-son, James Stapleton; and several brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 6 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Following the calling hours, a celebration of life service will begin at 6 P.M. with Pastor David Peoples officiating. In keeping with Ernie's wishes, cremation will follow the service and burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Bell Cemetery in Allensville.
