Frances L. "Fran" Alder, age 73 of McArthur, passed away unexpectedly on August 2, 2017 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Born February 14, 1944, Fran was the daughter of Frank and Irene Heft. She is survived by her daughter Billilyn Davidson (Matt) of McArthur; son Frank Alder (Amanda) of McArthur; stepson Dan Alder (Jane) of Athens; grandchildren, Grace, Emma and Asa Davidson, Ella and Joey Clancy, and Kaila Alder along with numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Bill Alder; sisters and brothers-in-law, Emmie and Has Ranney and Betty and Louie Raver and stepson Dick Alder (Anne).
Upon her marriage in 1971, Fran left her job at International Harvester to become a devoted housewife and stay-at-home mom. She spent many years volunteering with the Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Project and the Allensville Elementary/ Junior High PTO. Fran also served as a 4H advisor and was a member of multiple gardening clubs. Fran also made handcrafted baskets for nearly 25 years and was selected to exhibit her craft at the Ohio State Fair.
Fran was a born-again Christian and attended the Wellston Church of the Nazarene. Fran, a loving and devoted grandmother, never missed an opportunity to cook or buy treats for her grandkids. She also enjoyed growing flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables in her garden; watching Ohio State football; feeding the birds in the winter and crocheting baby hats for the Touching Little Lives organization.
In keeping with Fran's wishes, no calling hours will be observed. A private burial service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to one of Fran's favorite charities, The Tom Fennessey/Mike Harden Back-to-School Project, P.O. Box 12234, Columbus, OH 43212. Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
