Richard E. McWhorter, age 83, of Hamden, passed away January 25, 2018 at Four Winds Nursing and Rehabilitation in Jackson. He was born in Wellston, Ohio on November 4, 1934 to Eura McWhorter and MaryJane "Janie" George McWhorter. Richard worked at McNally Pittsburg MFG for many years until its closing and he then went on to work at Circleville Metal Works. Most recently he worked for and retired from BrenMar Construction, Inc. Richard was actively involved in the Vinton County Democratic Party and was also elected to the Democratic Central Party Committee. He was also an election poll worker. Richard was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved watching Vinton County Viking sports. He was a past member of the United and American kennel clubs and the Jackson/ Vinton County Coon Hunter Association. Richard was a member of the former Hamden Church of the Nazarene and a current member of Freedom Chapel of Wellston. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, whom he married on March 8, 1956, Norma "Jeanette" Thacker McWhorter; daughter, Lori Graman (Randy); grandchildren, Zachary Graman and Heather Graman (Nathan Wallace); 2 sisters, Alta "Eloise" Rice and Betty Rice; special friends, Rick Maynard and Hedrick Family of Steelial Construction along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Elmer McWhorter and Johnny McWhorter; sister Grace "Sis" Rousseau and nephew, James E. "Jimbo" Rice, Jr. Calling hours will be held at the McWilliams Funeral Home, Sunday from 4 to 8 P.M. Funeral service will be Monday at 11 A.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Rev.
