Carl D. Holcomb, age 93, of Wellston, passed away Sunday morning, July 22, 2012, at the Edgewood Manor of Wellston. He was born August 22, 1918 in Clay County, West Virginia, the son of the late Levi Holcomb and Mary Elizabeth Nutter Holcomb. Carl was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He was a former coal miner and was a member of the Church of God and the United Mine Workers. Carl enjoyed helping people and he loved yard sales. He is survived by his children, Jack (Connie) Holcomb of Crescent City, Florida, Kenneth (Nancy) Holcomb of Plainfield, Connecticut, Bonnie (Randall) Byus of Wellston, Harlan (Louise) Holcomb of Gatlin, Tennessee and Harry (Nancy) Holcomb of Moosup, Connecticut; half brother, Paul Holcomb of Little Rock, Arkansas; half sister, Clara Woods of Wellston, as well as 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie M. Layman Holcomb in 2011; grandson, Ronald "Buddy" Dickens and several brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with John Pelletier officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston.
